Elizabeth Ann Carroll serves as Vice Dean for Curriculum, Professor of Lawyering Skills, and Director of the Legal Writing and Advocacy Program at USC Gould School of Law, University of Southern California.
Her educational background includes a BS in Psychology with highest honors from UC Davis and a JD from Boalt Hall School of Law at UC Berkeley. Prior judicial experience encompasses clerkships with Magistrate Judges Carolyn Turchin (2005-2008) and Jay Gandhi, developing specialized expertise in federal habeas corpus and civil rights.
Carroll's professional focus centers on Legal Writing and Advocacy pedagogy, informed by a decade of civil litigation practice in business disputes, insurance coverage, and mass tort defense. Her scholarly interests intersect with Civil Rights Law, Social Security Appeals, and complex litigation frameworks.
Her recognition includes the Pro Bono Partner of the Year award (2003) during her partnership at Howrey LLP.
In academic leadership since 2009, Carroll progressed from adjunct professor to associate vice dean (2016) and vice dean (2018), directing curriculum development and the Legal Writing Program.
