Elizabeth A. Carlson is a Von Karman Instructor (Postdoc) and Research Fellow in the Department of Computing and Mathematical Sciences at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). Her research bridges theoretical and applied mathematics, with a focus on partial differential equations, fluid dynamics, and computational methods. She holds a B.A. from Carroll College (2016), an M.A. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (2018), and a Ph.D. (2021), all in relevant fields.
- Education: B.A. Carroll College, 2016; M.A. University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 2018; Ph.D., 2021.
Her research emphasizes practical applications such as data assimilation, optimization, and numerical analysis. She leads and participates in collaborative groups like the ADAPT research initiative (focusing on continuous data assimilation) and the Virtual Stochastic Reading Seminar (exploring stochastic processes).
Outside academia, she enjoys hiking, reading, and playing piano.
