Elise King is an Associate Professor of Interior Design and Interim Chair in the Department of Human Sciences and Design at Baylor University, part of the Robbins College of Health and Human Sciences. She holds master’s degrees in Architectural History and Interior Design from the University of Texas at Austin and has been a faculty member at Baylor since 2013.
Her research spans interdisciplinary domains, focusing on the intersection of interior design, architectural history, and digital humanities. Key areas include 19th and 20th-century design history, quantitative spatial analysis, and the legacy of Frank Lloyd Wright. She emphasizes community engagement and hands-on learning in her pedagogy.
King's research integrates digital tools with historical inquiry, notably through an NEH-supported project developing a semi-automatic system for analyzing archival floor plans. She is building a linked digital corpus to study Frank Lloyd Wright’s residential designs and has conducted pioneering empirical research on sleep deprivation among design students in collaboration with psychology faculty. Her work also explores wellness, productivity, and the evolution of design education.
Her current teaching includes ID 2395 (History of Interiors II), ID 2314 (Graphics II), ID 3418 (Interior Design Studio I), and ID 4123 (Capstone Research).

King mentors students through capstone research and design studio projects, emphasizing empirical and historical inquiry. Her collaborative grants, particularly with computer science and psychology departments, reflect a strong interdisciplinary approach to solving real-world challenges in design education and practice.
She is actively involved in curating exhibits and publishing on architectural history, linking past and present design methodologies. Her lab-like research initiatives involve digital humanities tools and spatial analytics, often in partnership with researchers across disciplines.
