Professor Elise Bant holds dual academic roles as a Professor of Private Law and Commercial Regulation at The University of Western Australia and a Professorial Fellow at The University of Melbourne. She specializes in unjust enrichment, restitution law, property law, contract law, consumer law, civil remedies, equity, and trusts. Her research also extends to legal theory and commercial regulation. She has authored influential books, including The Change of Position Defence (2009) and Unjust Enrichment (2016), and co-edits the Journal of Equity.
Professor Bant has earned prestigious recognitions, including Fellowship in the Australian Academy of Law (2019) and an ARC Future Fellowship (2020). Her current research focuses on corporate misconduct regulation and misleading conduct under common law, equity, and statute, supported by an Australian Research Council grant with Professor Jeannie Paterson.
Previously, she taught at Oxford University and served as Co-convenor of the Obligations Group at Melbourne Law School (2009–2019). She has advised three PhD students and contributed to the Melbourne Juris Doctor program. Her academic credentials include a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and Arts from UWA, a Bachelor of Civil Laws (Distinction) and PhD from the University of Oxford (as a Clarendon Scholar).
