Dr. Elisabeth Moolenaar serves as a Lecturer in the Sociology, Anthropology and Criminal Justice Department at Regis University and as affiliate faculty in the Masters of Development Practice program. Previously, she taught at the Colorado School of Mines, University of Bremen (Germany), and University of Groningen (Netherlands).
Her educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology, Brandeis University
- M.A. in Political Science, University of Amsterdam
- Graduate Certificate in Women’s and Gender Studies, Brandeis University
Her research investigates identity formation and belonging processes within socio-cultural frameworks, with specialized focus on energy extraction politics and cultural dimensions of energy transition. Recent ethnographic work in the United States, China, and Netherlands examines Groningen's energy transition through local cultural lenses.
She co-chairs the ExtrACTION & Environment topical interest group (Society for Applied Anthropology), chairs the Eric Wolf Prize committee (Political Ecology Society), serves on Lakewood's Advisory Commission, and participates in Regis University's Queer Resource Alliance and Academic Integrity Task Force.
