Dr. Elisabeth Griffiths is an Associate Professor at Northumbria Law School and a non-practising Solicitor. Her expertise spans equality law, disability discrimination in workplaces and education, and gender pay gap analysis. She holds leadership roles such as Director of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion at Northumbria, and chairs EDI committees in legal societies. She leads the Socio-Legal Studies Association’s mentoring scheme and social media initiatives.
Elisabeth earned a PhD in Law (2021) with a thesis on disabled students’ experiences in legal education, and a BA in Politics from Newcastle University (1992). Her research focuses on promoting inclusive legal education, dismantling barriers to entry in the legal profession, and advancing gender and disability equality.
Her work addresses themes like invisible disabilities, gendered promotion criteria, and religious accommodation policies. She collaborates internationally, contributing to comparative studies on the gender pay gap and legal diversity initiatives.
Elisabeth actively engages in educational reforms, supervising students across academic levels and co-editing influential texts. Her projects emphasize practical solutions to inequality in legal education and employment practices.
