Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theoryمعرفی
Elisabeth Fischer-Friedrich is a Heisenberg Professor (tenure track) at the Cluster of Excellence Physics of Life (PoL), TU Dresden, where she leads the Mechanics of Active Biomaterials Group. She holds affiliate status at the Center for Systems Biology Dresden (CSBD). Previously, she directed research groups at BIOTEC (TU Dresden) and conducted postdoctoral work at Max Planck Institutes in Dresden and the Weizmann Institute of Sciences.
Research Focus
Her lab investigates mechanical interactions in biological systems using interdisciplinary approaches. Key interests include:
- Mechanical properties of the actin cortex and stress-induced changes in cellular material
- Impact of mechanics on cell division, particularly in cancer progression
- Tension-dependent dynamics of actin-binding proteins
- Mechanical stress patterns in developing tissues
- Viscoelastic modeling and active matter theory
Recent Publications
Her work consistently explores cell/tissue biomechanics, with frequent themes in actin dynamics, cancer biophysics, and mechanotransduction. Recent articles leverage techniques like atomic force microscopy and optical tweezers to quantify mechanical responses in cellular systems, often integrating theoretical frameworks.
Training & Lab Culture
She currently advises three PhD students and mentors postdocs. The lab emphasizes cross-disciplinary collaboration, combining physics, biology, and engineering. Open positions target candidates interested in experimental biophysics, modeling, or cancer mechanics.
