Elisabet Mandon

Elisabet Mandon is an Associate Professor at UMass Chan Medical School with joint appointments in RNA Therapeutics Institute, Gene Therapy Center, and NeuroNexus Institute. Her lab investigates mitochondrial and endoplasmic reticulum dysfunction in neurodegeneration and aging.

Research focuses on early molecular events in ALS pathogenesis, particularly mutant SOD1 protein accumulation in mitochondria. Current projects examine protein translocation mechanisms across ER membranes and mitochondrial targeting pathways.

She employs biochemical, structural, and cell biological approaches to study protein transport defects. Collaborative work with Zuoshang Xu examines ER homeostasis in ALS mouse models.

Her laboratory is recruiting postdoctoral researchers to study mitochondrial targeting mechanisms in motor neuron degeneration.
