Elijah Paintsil is an Adjunct Professor in Pediatrics at Yale School of Medicine, affiliated with Yale Institute for Global Health and multiple departments including Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases and Pharmacology. His laboratory focuses on understanding host determinants of antiretroviral therapy (ART) responses, biomarkers of HIV-associated cancers, and mitochondrial dysfunction mechanisms. He holds an MD from Ghana Medical School and completed residencies at Lincoln Medical Center and Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
Research interests span HIV pathogenesis, pharmacology, molecular epidemiology, and global health challenges. His work integrates clinical and translational research, addressing issues like ART toxicity, coinfections (e.g., HIV and coronaviruses), and pediatric infectious disease dynamics in resource-limited settings. Recent studies highlight climate change impacts on pediatric infections and HIV-related metabolic complications.
Key publications from 2023-2025 emphasize HIV disclosure interventions, SARS-CoV-2 outcomes in HIV patients, and antibiotic resistance in Ghana. Awards include Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (2003). He collaborates widely, leading global health initiatives and clinical trials to improve HIV care in sub-Saharan Africa.
