Dr. Elif Andac-Jones is an Adjunct Lecturer in the Department of Sociology at Georgetown University, where she has taught since 2015. She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Washington (2007) and previously taught at the University of Kansas, University of Washington, and Bogazici University in Istanbul, Turkey. Her expertise spans political sociology, focusing on state-building, nationalism, ethnic and religious politics, and research methods including qualitative and mixed-methods approaches.
Her research interests include democratization, social movements (particularly in the MENA region), Islamist movements, political behavior, and conflict transformation. She has consulted for organizations like the NIH, World Bank, and healthcare institutions, applying her methodological expertise to social policy analysis. Fluent in Turkish and French, she also explores sectarian tensions between Muslims and Christians in the Arab region and gender politics in peace processes.
Dr. Andac-Jones’ work bridges theoretical and applied research, with a notable publication analyzing the Gezi Protests in Turkey. She maintains an active role in comparative historical research, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to understanding political dynamics in Turkey and beyond.
