Dr. Alpkan Birelma is an Assistant Professor at Özyeğin University's Faculty of Applied Sciences. He earned his Ph.D. in Social Policy and Labor Movements from Boğaziçi University's Atatürk Institute for Modern Turkish History in 2016 and has previously taught modern Turkish history at Boğaziçi University while working as a researcher at its Social Policy Forum.

His ethnographic book Struggle for Bread and Dignity (İletişim Yayinlari, 2014) analyzes worker mobilizations through anthropological and sociological frameworks.
