Elias Oikarinen is an Adjunct Professor at the Department of Built Environment and Real Estate Economics at the University of Turku. He holds a Doctoral degree in Business and Economics from the Turku School of Economics (2007). His research focuses on urban economics, housing market dynamics, and land use policy, with an emphasis on policy interventions, housing affordability, and socio-economic impacts.
Key research areas include metropolitan housing price-income relationships, wartime ethnic discrimination in housing markets, and the responsiveness of housing supply to land policies. He has led projects such as the Smartland initiative, exploring sustainable urbanization through land use policies and co-creation strategies.
His work has been recognized with the 2017 award for 'Revisiting the house-price income relationship.' Oikarinen actively engages in public outreach, presenting on topics like housing market disparities and sustainable urban development. He has also contributed to media discussions on housing policy, real estate investment, and urban planning challenges.
