Elias Georges

Associate Professor Elias Georges is based at the Institute of Parasitology, McGill University, Canada. His research straddles human nutrition and One-Health paradigms, with a strong emphasis on molecular mechanisms of multidrug resistance in human cancer cells and in the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum, as well as antibody engineering for immunotherapeutic applications.

Research Focus

• Multidrug resistance mediated by ABC transporters (P-glycoprotein/ABCB1, ABCC1/MRP1, PfCRT)
• Collateral sensitivity strategies to overcome tumour and parasite drug resistance
• Antibody-based tools targeting parasite transporter epitopes
• Third-harmonic generation imaging for label-free malaria diagnostics
• Design and synthesis of next-generation antimalarial compounds

Recent publications (2023–2017) reveal a sustained trajectory in medicinal chemistry, transporter biochemistry, and optical diagnostics. The work repeatedly links molecular structure–function analyses of transporters to translational outcomes in both oncology and parasitology, illustrating a cohesive research programme that integrates chemical biology, immunology and advanced imaging.
