Dr. Eleni Spyreli is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Public Health within Queen's University Belfast's School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences. She earned her PhD in 2020 with a thesis exploring parental attitudes and practices during complementary feeding under the supervision of Dr. McKinley and Dr. Dean.
Her research focuses on public health nutrition, maternal/child health, and dietary behaviors in vulnerable populations. Key areas include:
- Weight management interventions for postpartum women
- Food decision-making in low-income families
- Dietary quality during complementary feeding
- Digital health interventions (e.g., text message libraries)
- Qualitative methodologies including photovoice and interviews
Recent publications demonstrate strong emphasis on developing and evaluating health interventions, particularly through randomized controlled trials and adaptive methodologies during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her work consistently addresses socioeconomic determinants of nutrition and innovative health communication strategies.
Dr. Spyreli actively participates in academic events, including hosting visitors for the WeCAN Seminar and co-organizing International Women's Day 2024 events. She maintains collaborations across public health and nutrition research networks.
