Elena Shtromberg is a Professor in the Department of Art & Art History at the University of Utah, specializing in global contemporary art with a focus on Latin America. She is the author of Art Systems: Brazil and the 1970s (2016) and co-editor of Encounters in Video Art in Latin America (2023). Her research explores political art under dictatorships, mail art movements, and economic symbolism in visual culture.
Recent publications include a 2023 interview with mail artist Leonhard Frank Duch and analyses of Brazilian censorship through institutional critique. She has curated exhibitions such as the 2017 Video Art in Latin America and the 2023 Homage to Sonia Andrade. Her grants include the 2024 Terra Foundation Exhibition Grant and a 2023 Clark Art Institute Fellowship.
