Elena Marchevska is a Professor of Performance Studies and co-Director of the Creative Industries Digital x Data Research Centre at London South Bank University (LSBU). She holds additional roles including Associate Dean for Research and Innovation (2021–2025) and has previously served as Director of PG Research (2019–2021). Her work bridges academia and practice, focusing on performance, migration, and environmental cultural studies with a feminist, collaborative ethos.
Educated with a PhD (2012) and MFA (2005), her teaching spans undergraduate and postgraduate levels, emphasizing experimental Eastern European theatre, maternal and feminist philosophy, radical performance practices, and decolonial methodologies. She has supervised multiple PhD and MRes students, currently guiding five researchers exploring community theatre, autobiographical performance, and decolonial praxis.
Her research interrogates migrant narratives, maternal art practices, and border politics, utilizing auto-ethnography and practice-as-research. Notable works include co-editing The Maternal in Creative Work (2020) and leading projects like At Home With…, a collaborative filmmaking initiative with migratory artists. She serves as External Examiner for York St John University’s MA Theatre Practice.
Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly education and partnerships. She co-leads the XR Studio facility, integrating creative technologies into interdisciplinary research. Recent articles explore maternal media, postdigital performance, and decolonial knowledge systems, reflecting her commitment to intersectional, activist scholarship.
