Elena Lengthorn is a Senior Lecturer in Teacher Education at the University of Worcester’s School of Education. She serves as the PGCE Geography subject Lead and leads the Education for Sustainable Futures Special Interest Group (ESF SIG). Her work integrates sustainability across teaching programs, with a focus on Climate Emergency, Sustainable Futures, and Flood Education.
Elena’s career spans 15 years in secondary education before transitioning to higher education. She holds roles including Teacher of Science/Geography, Eco-Schools Co-ordinator, and Global Learning Programme Expert Centre Co-ordinator. Current projects include embedding SDGs in Initial Teacher Education (ITE), research at the Hereford Water Works, and a Flood Education Initiative with Lancaster University, HWF&R, Environment Agency, and Met Office.
Her accolades include the 2016 Global Educator of the Year Award and 2022 Green Impact Platinum/Gold Awards. She co-chairs the Our Shared World network and advises the OCR Natural History Strategic Advisory Board. Professional fellowships include HEA and Royal Geographical Society.
