Elena Cossu is an Associate Researcher at the Center for European Studies and Comparative Politics (CEE) at Sciences Po, where she contributes to the AUTHLIB project. Her research integrates data science and political science to analyze democratic backsliding and illiberalism in Europe through natural language processing of political texts.
Her research interests lie at the intersection of political science, data science, and computational methods. She specializes in using NLP and quasi-experimental techniques to study populist rhetoric, policy impacts, and ideological shifts in European politics. Her work emphasizes empirical measurement of democratic erosion and comparative analysis of political discourse across parties and regions.
Her recent publications demonstrate a strong trend toward computational analysis of political texts, particularly electoral manifestos and public speeches, with a regional focus on Central and Eastern Europe. She applies clustering, text mining, and econometric methods to assess the ideological positioning and economic consequences of populist movements.
