Elena Bogdanova is a Research Fellow at the Aleksanteri Institute of the University of Helsinki and a former Associate Professor at the European University at St. Petersburg. She leads the editorial board of the international journal Labouratorium. Her expertise spans post-socialist transformations, legal culture, and social policy in Eastern Europe and Eurasia.
- Education: PhD in Sociology from the University of Eastern Finland (2021), MA in Sociology from the European University at St. Petersburg and Helsinki University (2002).
- Grants: Current project Sensing as a Refugee: Vulnerable Bodies on the Move (Kone Foundation, 2023-2026); previous grants on Russian governance and civil society (e.g., German Research Foundation, Research Council of Norway).
- Teaching: Courses on qualitative research methods and Russian legal culture at the University of Helsinki and European University.
- Research Focus: State-society relations, administrative justice, and aging populations in post-Soviet contexts.
Her awards include the ISA Worldwide Competition of Young Sociologists (2012-2013) and the International Sociological Association Merit Award (2005).
