Yuliya Brin is a doctoral researcher at the Aleksanteri Institute - Finnish Centre for Russian and East European Studies, affiliated with the University of Helsinki. She is also associated with the Doctoral Programme in Political, Societal and Regional Change.

Her research focuses on legal responses to domestic violence in post-Soviet states, combining historical analysis with contemporary jurisprudence. Recent work examines Russia's compliance with ECtHR rulings on gender-based violence and comparative legal challenges across four post-Soviet countries.
Brin actively participates in academic conferences, including the Annual Aleksanteri Conference (2024), BASEES Annual Conference (2024), and ICCEES XI World Congress (2025). She leads the Academy of Finland-funded project "Till Death Do Us Part": Four Epochs of Violence in Every Family in Russia (2024-2028).
