Dr. Eleanor Miles is an Associate Professor in Psychology at the University of Sussex, School of Psychology. Her research focuses on self-regulation, emotion regulation, and their interplay with health outcomes, particularly in dementia care and body image. She leads the DETERMIND project (2019-2024), investigating emotion regulation’s impact on dementia patients and carers. She has held academic roles since 2013, progressing from Lecturer to Senior Lecturer before her current position.
Education: Studied at the University of Manchester, followed by postdoctoral research at the University of Sheffield.
Research Interests: Self-regulation mechanisms, health behavior change, and interventions targeting sleep, mindfulness, and dementia care. She explores social class dynamics in body image and the psychological impacts of pandemics on vulnerable populations.
Grants: Includes ESRC-NIHR DETERMIND funding (2019-2024) and Sussex Partnership NHS Trust grants. She has secured over £1.2M in research funding across dementia, self-regulation, and mental health stigma reduction.
Teaching & Supervision: Convenes self-regulation modules and supervises undergraduate, MSc, and PhD students. Her courses include ‘Self-Regulation: The Science of Achieving Your Goals’ (C8894) and ‘Individuals and Groups’ (C8510). Offers drop-in sessions via Calendly for student support.
