Professor Elaine Craig is a distinguished academic and legal scholar at Dalhousie University's Schulich School of Law. She holds the titles of Professor of Law, Dorothy Killam Foundation Research Fellow, and Distinguished University Research Professor. Her expertise spans evidence law, sexual assault law, criminal law ethics, constitutional law, and feminist legal theory. Craig earned her BA in Criminology from the University of Alberta, LLB from Dalhousie, LLM from Yale University, and JSD from Dalhousie.
Her research focuses on legal responses to sexual violence, digital privacy, and systemic biases in criminal justice. Notable works include Mainstreaming Porn: Sexual Integrity and the Law Online (2024) and Putting Trials on Trial: Sexual Assault and the Failure of the Legal System (2018). She has been widely recognized with awards such as the 2022 LLD honoris causa from the Law Society of Ontario and the 2019 Spirit of Barbara Schlifer Award.
Craig teaches courses on constitutional law, sexual assault law, and legal ethics. She actively engages with public discourse through media appearances like her feature on CBC Radio’s The Current discussing Pornhub’s age verification policies. Her advocacy extends to institutional reform, including critiques of Trinity Western University’s proposed law degree program and defense of LGBTQ+ rights.
