Elaine Bennett, Ph.D., is Dean of the School of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, Chair of the Sociology and Anthropology Department, and Director of Anthropology, Public Health, and Global Engagement programs at Saint Vincent College. She holds a Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of Connecticut, an M.P.H. from Southern Connecticut State University, and a B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh.
Her research focuses on child health and nutrition in Guatemala's indigenous populations, integrating community-based interventions with Saint Vincent College students across disciplines. She emphasizes experiential and community-engaged learning, leading study abroad programs to Guatemala and Peru. Her work bridges applied medical anthropology with public health, emphasizing reciprocity in service-learning and local research initiatives.
Publications highlight global water challenges, service-learning frameworks, and stigma's role in health syndemics. She actively involves students in research teams for local and international projects, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.
