Elaine Alarid is a Professor in the Department of Oncology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, affiliated with the School of Medicine and Public Health. Her research focuses on hormonal regulation in cancer, particularly estrogen receptor alpha (ERα) signaling and its role in breast cancer. She has pioneered studies on ERα proteolysis and post-translational modifications, contributing to understanding hormone receptor dynamics. Alarid joined the ERP Program in 1999 and has collaborated with key researchers like Howard Bern and Gerry Cunha. She holds a B.A. (1985) and Ph.D. (1991) from UC Berkeley, followed by postdoctoral training at UCSF.
Her work bridges molecular endocrinology and cancer biology, emphasizing ERα's role in tumor biology and therapeutic resistance. Recent studies explore GRHL2's impact on cellular plasticity in ER+ breast cancers. Alarid has co-authored over 50 publications and distributed research tools globally, including stable cell lines and ERα constructs.
