Elahe Nezhadhossein is an Assistant Professor of Sociology in the Department of Social Sciences at the University of New Brunswick. Her research focuses on gender, race, media, and political activism, particularly the representation of Iranian and Muslim women in North American media. She holds a PhD in Sociology from Memorial University, where her dissertation won the Ph.D. Dissertation Prize (Scholarship in The Arts). Her forthcoming book, Voices of Change: Iranian Women and Their Participation in Social Movements, is under contract with the University of Toronto Press.
Educational Background: PhD in Sociology from Memorial University (dissertation prize recipient).
Research Interests: Explores how media narratives influence public perceptions of women’s political engagement, with a focus on Iranian women’s activism. Interdisciplinary approach integrating sociology, gender studies, and political science. Recent postdoctoral research at the University of Windsor examined racialized cultural dynamics in organizational recruitment practices.
Awards: Recipient of the prestigious Ph.D. Dissertation Prize for her work on media representation of Iranian women.
Teaching & Engagement: Teaches courses such as Gender, Power, and Health; Quantitative Research Methods in Social Sciences; and Introduction to Sociology.
