Eirik Sørbø is an Associate Professor at the University of Agder's Department of Rhythmic Music. He recently completed his doctoral dissertation titled 'Developing Practices and Approaches to Electronic Popular Music Education,' examining how continental educational theory (particularly Gert Biesta's frameworks) can inform electronic music pedagogy. Currently, he serves as Project Developer and Work Package Leader at CreaTeME (Centre for Excellence in Technology in Music Education) and leads the studX initiative focused on student-active learning in music education.
His research explores how music education adapts to technological advancements to foster originality and citizenship, with emphases on student agency, technology integration, and pedagogical innovation. Key thematic areas include electronic music pedagogy, aesthetic dialogue models, and curriculum design in higher education.
Publications consistently address technology-mediated learning, collaborative music creation, and theoretical frameworks for electronic music education. Recent works analyze student autonomy in music theory courses (2025) and aesthetic communication in group music production (2024), demonstrating a trajectory toward student-centered pedagogical models.
He contributes to multiple research groups including Electronic Music, Songwriting and Production, and Music, Dance, Drama - Interdisciplinary Practices and Educational Discourses (MDD-Forsk).
