Eirik Askerøi

Eirik Askerøi is a Professor of Music at the University of Innlandet and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Agder. He holds an MA in Musicology from the University of Oslo (2005) and a PhD in Performing Rhythmic Music from the University of Agder (2013). His research focuses on the interplay between human and machine in music production, the impact of technology on musical expression, and the role of sonic details in shaping overall musical identity.

Key research interests include popular music studies, music education, cultural theory, and discursive analysis. He has contributed to peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes, exploring topics such as gender perspectives in music education, sonic markers in Joy Division's sound, and the narrative strategies in children's music.

Askerøi is also an active musician, having performed and recorded with bands like Pling, Agregat, and Queendom. His discography spans roles as a guitarist, vocalist, and producer across various genres.

He participates in research groups such as 'Music Education and Cultural Studies' and 'Quest—Artistic Development and Aesthetic Learning Processes.' His work bridges academic scholarship with practical music production, emphasizing the evolving relationship between technology and artistic expression.
