Peter Weniger

Peter Weniger serves as Professor of Saxophone at Berlin University of the Arts within the Faculty of Music and Jazz Institute Berlin, a position held continuously since October 1999. He previously directed the Jazz Institute Berlin from 2005 to 2019, maintaining active performance and educational roles throughout his tenure at the institution.

His artistic research centers on rhythmic innovation, melodic development, harmonic exploration, and sonic texture within jazz frameworks, driven by the credo "Being part in the act of creation." Weniger bridges historical jazz traditions with contemporary experimentation across genres, emphasizing emotional expression and technical virtuosity in saxophone performance. His educational work spans international workshops focusing on improvisational techniques and ensemble dynamics.

Current creative projects include "Point Of Departure," "Duo Élégance," and "Déluge," with 2025 tours featuring collaborations like Riccardo Del Fra's "BROADWAY LETTERS" and the Larry Porter Quartett. His discography comprises 16 albums including "Serious Fun," "Legal Paradizer," and "The Point Of Presence," reflecting his interdisciplinary approach to jazz composition and production.
