Eileen Daly is a Senior Lecturer at King's College London, affiliated with the School of Academic Psychiatry and the Department of Forensic and Neurodevelopmental Science. She completed her Bachelor's degree in Chemistry at Northern Kentucky University and earned a PhD from the Institute of Psychiatry in 2014. Her research focuses on neurodevelopmental disorders, particularly autism spectrum disorder (ASD), with a focus on serotonin system modulation and neuroimaging techniques. She leads the MSc in Clinical Neurodevelopmental Science program and co-edited the book *The Serotonin System: History, Neuropharmacology and Pathology*.
Her research interests include developmental neuroscience, pharmacological interventions (e.g., psilocybin, tianeptine), and neuroimaging studies using functional MRI to investigate brain function in ASD. She has contributed to large-scale collaborations such as the ENIGMA-ASD working group and the AIMS-2-Trials consortium, advancing consensus on outcome measures for neurodevelopmental disorders.
Notable research themes include serotonin's role in emotional and cognitive processing, GABAergic signaling in sensory systems, and structural brain differences in neurodevelopmental conditions like 22q11.2 deletion syndrome. She explores translational neuroscience approaches to bridge basic research and clinical applications, including the development of the 'shiftability' paradigm for assessing neurobiological shifts in ASD.
Her work intersects with forensic psychiatry, examining criminal justice system interactions among adults with ASD. She has published extensively on neuroimaging, pharmacological studies, and neurodevelopmental mechanisms, with over 40 peer-reviewed articles.
