Maria Gudbrandsen is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Psychology, King's College London, and affiliated with the Centre for Research in Psychological Wellbeing. She holds a PhD in Clinical Neuroscience from King's College London, following her MSc in Psychiatric Research Methods and BSc in Psychology. Her work focuses on neurodevelopmental disorders, particularly 22q11.2 deletion syndrome (22q11.2DS), with an emphasis on mental health in educational settings and neuroanatomical mechanisms of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) comorbidity in this population.
She is a core member of international consortia including the ENIGMA-22q working group and the International 22q.2 Brain Behaviour Consortium. Notable projects include investigating clinical heterogeneity of ASD in 22q11.2DS and improving mental health support for affected populations. Her research spans neuroimaging, genetic analysis, and educational interventions.
Maria has published extensively on brain structural abnormalities in 22q11.2DS, cortical folding patterns linked to ASD symptoms, and white matter microstructure. Her work aims to inform targeted treatments for genetic neurodevelopmental disorders.
