Eileen Chengyin Chow is an Associate Professor of the Practice in Chinese and Japanese Cultural Studies at Duke University, and a founding director of Story Lab. She serves as Director of Graduate Studies for Duke’s East Asian Studies graduate program and is a core faculty member in Asian American and Diaspora Studies. Additionally, she directs the Cheng Shewo Institute of Chinese Journalism at Shih Hsin University (Taiwan) and co-directs the Biographical Literature Press and its journal Biographical Literature. She holds editorial roles at the LA Review of Books and the Duke University Press series Sinotheory.
- Education: Ph.D. in Comparative Literature (Stanford University, 2000), A.B. in Literature (Harvard University).
Her research focuses on cultural studies, biographical writing, and East Asian media history. She co-founded Story Lab to explore narrative forms in digital media and collaborates on projects blending academic and public-facing scholarship. Her work integrates comparative literature, journalism, and cultural critique, with a focus on Chinese and Japanese contexts.
