Eike Wittrock is a Professor of Dance Studies at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna (MUK) since September 2023. Previously, he held academic positions at the University of Hildesheim (2016–2020), University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (2020–2023), and participated in DFG-funded projects like "Script Imagery" and "Images of Movement".
- Education: Studied musicology and theater studies at Humboldt University of Berlin and Free University of Berlin, earning a doctorate in 2013.
His research focuses on 19th-century ballet aesthetics, gender studies, and interdisciplinary performance arts. He co-founded the Julius-Hans-Spiegel-Zentrum for examining exoticisms in modern dance and curated projects like Greatest Show on Earth: An International Performance Circus for the 21st Century.
Recent collaborations include curatorial roles at Kampnagel International Summer Festival (2013–2016), membership in the DFG network Queer Contemporary Histories, and dramaturgical work in dance and musical theater. His academic output integrates artistic practice with theoretical inquiry.
