Ehsan Lor Afshar is an Assistant Professor in Cultural Anthropology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. His research focuses on the intersections of power, culture, and value, particularly in the context of economic sanctions and displacement in Baluchistan, southeastern Iran.

His work integrates value theory with the Anthropology of Sanctions to examine how economic sanctions reconfigure value systems, leading to migration and displacement. Ehsan has taught anthropology courses in both Iran and the United States and served on the Board of Directors for the Iranian Society of Anthropology (2017-2019).
He received the Wadsworth International Fellowship (2017) from the Wenner-Gren Foundation, which supported his education and dissertation fieldwork, and a National Science Foundation grant for his research.
