Dr. Edwin Fohtung is an Associate Professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in New York and a Visiting Professor at Lund University in Sweden. He is also a LINXS (Lund Institute of Advanced Neutron and X-ray Science) Fellow, actively contributing to advanced imaging and scattering techniques in condensed matter physics.
- B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Technical and Applied Physics from St. Petersburg State Polytechnic University, Russia
- Ph.D. (Dr. rer. nat., summa cum laude) from the University of Freiburg, Germany (2010)
Prof. Fohtung specializes in probing nanoscale structures and dynamics in condensed matter systems, focusing on coupled spin, orbital, charge, and lattice degrees of freedom. His group develops novel synchrotron-based coherent x-ray and neutron scattering techniques to study these phenomena in materials with competing order parameters.
His honors include the prestigious LANSCE Professorship and Rosen Fellowship at Los Alamos National Laboratory. He has also secured significant funding from agencies such as the US Department of Defense (DoD-AFOSR), National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), National Science Foundation (NSF), and Los Alamos National Laboratory's directed research programs.
Prof. Fohtung's career spans institutions including Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANL), New Mexico State University, University of California San Diego (Shpyrko Group), and the Institute for Photon Science and Synchrotron Radiation at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany.
