Prof. Dr. Edward van 't Slot holds the Special Chair for Systematic Theology and 21st Century Ecclesiology at the Faculty of Religion, Culture and Society, University of Groningen. He also serves as Assistant Professor and Head at the Center for Professional Formation and Spirituality, Protestant Theological University (Amsterdam/Groningen). His academic journey began with theology studies at Utrecht University and a Master of Divinity from the Nederlandse Hervormde Kerk.

Van 't Slot's research focuses on systematic theology, church studies, and 21st-century ecclesiology. His work explores intersections between Karl Barth and Dietrich Bonhoeffer's theological frameworks, particularly regarding revelation theory, actualism, and the nature of the church. He investigates Kierkegaard's mystical interpretations, Bonhoeffer's ethical writings, and scriptural hermeneutics.
His publications include analyses of Bonhoeffer's ecclesiology (2018), critiques of Barth's theology (2004, 2015), and explorations of theological dynamics between academia and religious institutions (2015). Recent works examine Kierkegaard's Works of Love as mystical literature (2021) and Bonhoeffer's ethical paradigms (2019).
