Dr. Edward White is a Professor and Department Head of Mechanical Engineering at the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science, The University of Texas at Dallas. He joined UT Dallas in 2024, bringing expertise in aerospace engineering and aerodynamics. White oversees 44 faculty members and nearly 1,200 students at all levels, emphasizing a collaborative research environment.
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering and Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University (CWRU); PhD in Aerospace Engineering from Arizona State University (2000).
His research focuses on wind-tunnel experiments, boundary-layer stability, laminar-to-turbulent transitions, and drag reduction in aircraft configurations. Funding sources include the U.S. Air Force, NASA, National Science Foundation, and Sandia National Laboratories. White has held leadership roles in the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), including serving on the Fluid Dynamics Technical Committee.

Prior to UT Dallas, White spent 17 years at Texas A&M University as associate department head of aerospace engineering and director of two wind tunnels. He also taught at CWRU for seven years, designing specialized wind tunnels for boundary-layer and aircraft icing research.
