Edward B. White is a Professor and Department Head of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Texas at Dallas, holding the Jonsson School Chair. He leads a department with 44 faculty and ~1,200 students across all levels. His research focuses on fundamental and applied aerodynamics, particularly laminar-to-turbulent transition, boundary-layer stability, and wind tunnel experimentation. He has directed major wind tunnel facilities and contributed to drag reduction strategies for aircraft configurations.
Education:
- Ph.D. Aerospace Engineering, Arizona State University (2000)
- M.S. Mechanical Engineering, Case Western Reserve University (1995)
- B.S. Aerospace Engineering, Case Western Reserve University (1995)
Research Interests include wind tunnel facility development, aerodynamic efficiency, and flow control techniques. His work bridges experimental and applied aerodynamics with real-world engineering challenges.
Awards include AIAA Associate Fellow status and the William O. and Montine P. Head awards from Texas A&M University. His research has been funded by the U.S. Air Force, NASA, NSF, and Sandia National Labs.
Grants & Advising: Over $X million in grants secured; advised numerous students (not listed here). His leadership emphasizes fostering an environment for collaborative innovation.
Labs & Teams: Former director of Texas A&M's Oran W. Nicks Low Speed Wind Tunnel and Klebanoff-Saric Wind Tunnel. At UT Dallas, continues advancing aerodynamics research infrastructure.
