Dr. Edward W. Huffstetler currently serves as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Concord University in Athens, West Virginia. He previously held faculty and administrative roles at Bridgewater College and Upper Iowa University, including Professor of English and Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences.
- Education: Ph.D. and M.A. in English and American Literature from the University of Iowa; B.A. in English and Drama from Coker University.
Research Interests focus on 19th-century American Literature, particularly Walt Whitman’s work, and Contemporary American Indian Fiction and Poetry. His scholarship explores spiritual faith, colonial resistance, and literary symbolism.
Selected Publications span literary criticism, anthologies, and creative writing, with notable works on Whitman, American Indian resistance narratives, and Mark Twain’s cultural relativism. His 2019 publication on Whitman and 2007 novel reflect his engagement with poetry and fiction.
Administrative Achievements include extensive experience in accreditation (SACS/COC and HLC peer reviewer), curriculum development, academic policy reform (Faculty Handbooks), and leadership training in higher education. He has collaborated with consultants on grants, data analysis, and program reviews.
