Edward Whitley is Professor and Chair of the Department of English at Lehigh University, specializing in 18th–19th-century American literature and digital humanities. His scholarship focuses on Walt Whitman, manuscript/print culture, and networked literary history.

Research explores American Studies, Digital and Public Humanities, and Manuscript/Archival Scholarship, with specific interests in 19th-century U.S. literary networks, periodical culture, and critical data studies.
Recent publications analyze data cultures in antebellum literature, Whitman’s editorial practices, and networks of Poe and Whitman. Articles span topics from gender in publishing to visualizing archives.
