معرفی
Edward Cutler is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at Brigham Young University, affiliated with the College of Humanities. He specializes in 19th- and early 20th-century American literature, with a focus on the emergence of literary modernism, urban and print cultures, and the works of Edgar Allan Poe and Walt Whitman.
His research centers on the intellectual and cultural foundations of American modernism. He has published extensively on transatlantic literary developments and is currently working on a book exploring Walt Whitman’s engagement with Romantic philosophy. His research bridges literary analysis, cultural history, and philosophical inquiry.
His publications, including the award-winning Recovering the New: Transatlantic Roots of Modernism (2003), reflect a strong thematic continuity in modernist origins, transatlantic exchange, and 19th-century cultural formations. These works are grounded in literary history and critical theory, with recurring subfields in urban culture, print media, and philosophical influences on literature.
Honors and awards include:
- Best Manuscript Prize from University Press of New England’s Becoming Modern: New Nineteenth Century Studies
- Donald R. and Jean S. Marshall Professorship at BYU (2012–2017)
He has served the academic community through professional roles such as Committee/Council Member at the National Endowment for the Humanities (2012–Present). There is no public information on grants or student advising, but his academic engagement suggests active mentorship in American literature and modernist studies. He holds a PhD from UC San Diego (1997) and continues to contribute to literary scholarship through research and service.
