Edward Stewart is a Lecturer in the Department of Electronic, Electrical and Systems Engineering at the University of Birmingham and Deputy Director of the Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education (BCRRE). His research focuses on instrumentation and condition monitoring in railway systems, energy analysis, and non-destructive testing. He holds a PhD in Electronic Engineering (2012) and an MEng in Computer and Communications Engineering (2004), both from the University of Birmingham.
His teaching includes digital electronics, microprocessor systems, and embedded systems across undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including international collaborations at Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Research areas encompass railway vehicle instrumentation, energy loss analysis, and real-time processing architectures. He leads projects in the UK, Europe, and Asia, emphasizing practical applications in railway infrastructure and performance.
Edward supervises PhD students in railway-related engineering and has advised multiple MSc and MRes candidates. His work integrates academic research with industrial partnerships, contributing to advancements in railway technology and education.
