Edward R. Dickinson is a Professor in the History Department at the University of California, Davis. He holds a Ph.D. from UC Berkeley (1991), an M.A. from Columbia University (1985), and a B.A. from UC Santa Cruz (1984). Prior to UC Davis, he taught at Victoria University (Wellington, 1991–2000) and the University of Cincinnati (2002–2007). His research focuses on world history, German history, dance history, the history of sexuality, cultural history, and historiography.
His notable works include Teaching History in Higher Education (2025), The World in the Long Twentieth Century (2018), and Dancing in the Blood (2017). His scholarship explores topics such as modern German social policy, sexuality debates, and the cultural impact of modern dance. Dickinson has been recognized with awards for outstanding historical articles in German Studies Review (2012 and 2004).
