Edward McArdle is an Adjunct Professor of Law at Cornell Law School, Cornell University, and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Bioethics and Humanities at the Center for Bioethics at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York. His teaching includes courses on the powers and duties of the office of state attorney general and hospital mediation of ethical dilemmas in clinical healthcare. He also serves as an ethics consultant on SUNY Upstate’s hospital ethics consultation service.
Research Interests: McArdle’s work focuses on medical treatment decision-making at the end of life, dispute resolution in hospital settings, disability rights, and patient advocacy. His scholarship bridges legal and ethical frameworks to address complex healthcare challenges.
Legal Career: Before joining SUNY Upstate, he served for many years as an Assistant Attorney General with the New York State Attorney General’s Office, representing state agencies in litigation involving patient treatment disputes, guardianship, and discharge safety protocols for healthcare institutions.
