Edward Lemaire is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Ottawa's Department of Mechanical Engineering and School of Human Kinetics, affiliated with the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. He holds a PhD in Bioengineering from the University of Strathclyde and an MSc in Biomechanics from the University of Ottawa. His research focuses on technologies enhancing mobility for individuals with physical disabilities, including wearable devices, exoskeletons, and virtual reality systems for rehabilitation.
Research interests include biomechanical analysis of pathological movement, smart mobility monitoring systems, and clinical applications of mobile and wearable technologies. He leads projects like Rehabilitation Intelligent Mobility Systems (RIMS) and MoRe (Mobility Research), addressing mobility challenges in aging populations and those with spinal cord injuries or amputations.
Dr. Lemaire serves as President of the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO) and collaborates with the Ottawa-Carleton Institutes for Biomedical Engineering and Computer Science. His work spans over 100 publications, emphasizing gait analysis, assistive device design, and fall risk prediction using sensor-based systems.
