Edward Lazear was a renowned economist and professor at Stanford University's Graduate School of Business, holding the title of Davies Family Professor of Economics. He was also a Morris Arnold and Nona Jean Cox Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution and a senior fellow at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research. His career included serving as Chairman of President George W. Bush's Council of Economic Advisers from 2006 to 2009, where he played a pivotal role in addressing the 2007-2008 financial crisis. Lazear was a pioneer in labor economics, founding the field of personnel economics and authoring Personnel Economics (1995), which established this discipline. He held appointments across multiple institutions, including the University of Chicago prior to Stanford. His research spanned labor markets, immigration, productivity, and entrepreneurship, earning him widespread recognition and numerous awards.
