Edward Hurvitz

Edward Hurvitz, MD, is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at the University of Michigan Medical School. He also holds the James W. Rae Collegiate Professorship in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Hurvitz specializes in pediatric and adult cerebral palsy rehabilitation, electroneuromyography, and congenital disabilities.

• Education: Wayne State University (undergraduate valedictorian), Wayne State College of Medicine (1984), Residency at Sinai Hospital of Detroit.

Dr. Hurvitz's research focuses on spasticity management, motor control, and health/fitness in individuals with cerebral palsy. His work includes NIH-funded projects on rehabilitation research training and industry-supported studies on body composition and fitness for CP patients.

He has received the Howard A. Donnely award for academic excellence and serves on national committees like the NIH review panel. Dr. Hurvitz previously served as Chief of Service for PM&R at the Ann Arbor VA hospital and leads the NIH-sponsored rehabilitation research training program.
