Edward C. Lyons is a Professor at the Oklahoma City University School of Law, where he teaches courses such as Torts, Advanced Torts, Criminal Law, and Taxation. Previously, he served as a visiting scholar at Notre Dame Law School (2010-11) and taught at Michigan State University College of Law. His legal career includes a clerkship with Judge Edward Leavy of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and litigation practice at Skadden, Arps, focusing on tax, securities fraud, and mass torts. He holds a B.A. from the University of San Francisco, J.D. from Notre Dame, and M.A./Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of St. Thomas.
Lyons' scholarship bridges law and philosophy, with a focus on natural law theory, the principle of double effect, and religious freedom. His work examines intersections of ethics, constitutional law, and business ethics. Key publications include analyses of the HHS contraceptive mandate, Oregon v. Smith, and corporate social responsibility. Office hours are Tuesday-Thursday 3-4 p.m.
