Edward Byrne is a Senior Research Professor of English at Valparaiso University in the College of Arts and Sciences. He has specialized in teaching modern and contemporary poetry and fiction, 19th-century poetry, film studies, environmental literature, and creative writing since joining the faculty in 1983-1984. His scholarly contributions include editing two poetry anthologies and serving as editor of the Valparaiso Poetry Review and co-editor of the Valparaiso Fiction Review.

Byrne is a prolific poet with eight published collections, including a trilogy: Tidal Air, Seeded Light, and Tinted Distances, alongside the audio chapbook Dark Refuge. His literary criticism appears in anthologies like Harold Bloom’s Mark Strand and textbooks such as The Crafty Poet: A Portable Workshop. As a photographer, he focuses on sports, landscapes, and portraits, with his work featured in journals, books, and public exhibitions, particularly through his Indiana Dunes-centered word-and-image project funded by the Indiana Arts Commission and National Endowment for the Arts.
