Edward Bahnson

Edward Bahnson, PhD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cell Biology and Physiology at the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Medicine. His research focuses on diabetic vasculopathies, leveraging nanotechnology to develop targeted therapies for cardiovascular diseases. His lab is part of the Center for Nanotechnology in Drug Delivery and investigates redox dysfunction mechanisms in atherosclerosis, including environmental factors like air pollution.

Research Interests:

• Designing peptide-based nanocarriers for local delivery of redox-based therapies
• Understanding how Nrf2/Keap1 pathway activation inhibits restenosis in diabetic models
• Assessing ozone exposure impacts on vascular surgery outcomes
• Developing polygenic rat models to study diabetes-linked vascular pathologies

Labs/Teams: Member of the Bahnson Research Group and the Center for Nanotechnology in Drug Delivery.

Advising & Collaborations: Collaborates with Dr. Elena Batrakova on macrophage-based delivery systems. Open to mentoring graduate students via rotation programs.
