Eduardo Fernandez Fuertes is a Limited Term Assistant Professor in the Mathematics Department at the University of Georgia. He collaborates with David Gay and Gordana Matić and is affiliated with the geometry and topology research groups. He earned his PhD in 2021 from ICMAT - Universidad Complutense de Madrid under Francisco Presas.
Research Focus: His work centers on the interplay between flexible and rigid aspects of contact and symplectic topology. Specific areas include h-principles, embedding spaces, diffeomorphisms, and low-dimensional topology. He investigates Legendrian knots, 3-manifolds, and deformation techniques in geometric structures.
Publication Trends: His 11 recent papers (2019–2025) predominantly explore contact topology, Legendrian embeddings, and 3-manifold dynamics. Recurring themes include overtwisted structures, diffeomorphism groups, and applications of h-principles. The work combines theoretical rigor with innovative approaches to classical problems in geometric topology.
Advising and Collaboration: Eduardo mentors students at multiple levels:
- DRP/UGA: Alexandra Mark, James Squires, Joseph Ferraro
- Undergraduate: Enrique Sánchez Ibáñez (thesis co-advisor)
- Graduate: Dahyana Farias, Wei Zhou (co-advisor)
